About Mallee Milk Distributors

Our Beginning

John and Helen started actively being involved in the milk industry back in the eighties where they both worked at the Murray Goulburn processing plant. The plant was located where the Ice Works and Library are at present. The processing plant was eventually sold and closed and that’s when a new partnership was to begin.

John and Helen Tonkin formed a partnership back in 1984 with Sandhurst Farms to trade under 2 entities Swan Hill Milk Distributors & Mallee Milk Distributors. The companies eventually consolidated into one company when John and Helen purchased the entire business from Sandhurst.

In 2021 Corey and Kristen and Scott and Tamika Tonkin took over with Corey and Scott becoming directors of the companies,  continuing to manage the business on behalf of all families.

A  purpose built dairy was built at 283 Karinie Street where it currently is still being operated from. The depot sits on 2.5 acres and has a purpose built coolroom that holds 40- 50 pallets of Dairy Products. Extensions over the time have included a dry grocery area that holds Beverage, Chips and Confectionary.

Over the years the business has grown from 6 employees and distributing around the townships of Swan Hill, Balranald, Nyah, Sea Lake, Hopetoun and Lascelles. Fast forward to today and we now employ 12 local staff, with a number of these having been employed for the past 20 years,  which gives us years of knowledge and experience in the dairy industry. We now service from the edges of Bendigo right up to Deniliquin, Hay around to Charlton and Boort over to Birchip and through to Robinvale whilst still covering the original towns throughout the area from when Mallee Milk first opened it’s doors.

Originally wholesaling only Milk and other Dairy lines, our company has diversified into a huge range of products. Some of these products are the Oil sector, Snack foods, Beverages and perishable items. This adds convenience for the customer as we can be utilised as a one stop Wholesaler for our customers convenience.

The Pauls Milk Brand is a locally recognized product, one that that has been sold throughout the local area for the past 40 years. Quality of the product, price, life span and the diverse range of products being offered from fetta cheese, buttermilk to Oak flavoured milk and the No 1 Ice Break, is what makes the brand a standout performer.

Our Company also distributes Schweppes, Coca Cola, Mon Beverages, Bundaberg, energy drinks, Nippy’s juice & Nippy’s milk, Fresha Juice, Goodman Fielder bakery goods, Confectionary, Smiths Chips and Grocery items.

A shopping cart has been included which allows orders to be sent directly to our main office and can be either delivered to you or can be picked up at our depot.
